CIFELLI releases line of Fast Ethernet switches

Kanata, ON-March 30, 1999 - CIFELLI Corporation introduces a new line of ultra slim Fast Ethernet frame switches. The venue for the new series of products is the OCRI '99 show held at the COREL Centre in Kanata.

Tony Cifelli, President & CEO of CIFELLI, commented "Our product offering now includes Fast Ethernet switching solutions at unbeatable prices. We delight in the presentation of our cNet™ switch. The performance of our system on display today will impress everyone from novice to savvy engineer."

The demo is of a Fast Ethernet LAN with two (2) nodes. The first node is a cBox™ [Intel PIII-500; 128MB PC100 SDRAM; 3Com 10/100 NIC; Pioneer 32x SCSI CD-ROM; Fujitsu 4.5MB SCSI HDD; SONY 21" Trinitron monitor] integrated with our cPEG™ [Sigma Designs MPEG2 decoder; Pioneer 6x IDE DVD-ROM] bundle. The second node is a cBook™ [Intel P200-MMX; 13.3" XTFT; 64MB SDRAM; PCMCIA 10/100 NIC; 2.1GB EIDE HDD]. The cBook™ and cBox™ are connected to a cNet™ NSH-504 switch [4 UTP; 1 BNC/AUI; up-link crossover].

The cNet™ NSH-504 is a mini desktop unit with 4 auto-sensing ports which can operate at full wire rate (148,800 frames/s) on each segment. Full duplex operation will yield 200Mb/s transmissions. We transfer files from the cBook™ to the cBox™ through the cNet™ while cPEG™ simultaneously plays a DVD movie on the cBox™. The MPEG2 decoding path is unaffected by file transfer activity. Playback remains impeccably smooth with no dropped frames.
